Fighting salmonella infantis: bacteriophage-driven cleaning and disinfection strategies for broiler farms

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of phages as a biocide against S. Infantis isolates in combination with cleaning and disinfection protocols in 10 commercial poultry farms. Methods: All commercial farms selected in this study had persistent Salmonella, even after the routinely used cleaning and disinfection procedures. The results of this study show that two phage applications in Frontiers in Microbiology frontiersin.org 10.3389/fmicb.2024.1401479 repeated isolation of an AP from the same facilities spared in time could minimize the risk bacterial variants represent for phage therapy.
