Optimising recycling processes for polyimine-based vitrimer carbon fibre-reinforced composites: a comparative study on reinforcement recovery and material properties

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: This study shows the feasibility of vitrimer composites emphasising the need for further optimisation to ensure environmental and economic sustainability while mitigating residual solvent and matrix effects. ma17102372 In this research work, the goal was to investigate the effect of different parameters on the chemical recycling of imine-based vitrimers and the properties of recycled reinforcing fibres and composites produced from them. The long-term goal of the recycling processes is to achieve the closed-loop recycling of the vitrimer matrix by transamination reactions, but this study focused on the optimisation of carbon fibre recovery.
