Does the practice of prenatal and postnatal yoga reduce the prevalence of postnatal depression? a systematic review

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The aim of this systematic review (SR) was to assess and analyse the effects of yoga on postnatal depression. The overall findings of all the studies showed positive effects in the reporting of reduction in anxiety depressive symptoms and increasing practice of mindfulness amongst the women who were studied. The studies included yoga classes delivered by any professional in a health and fitness setting, be it a midwife or another healthcare professional suggesting participation in the teaching/promotion or practising of yoga for the reason to reduce the symptoms of postnatal depression.
