China’s economic engagement in africa: a study of neo-colonialism vs. development partnership

  • What: This study investigates whether China`s engagement represents neo-colonialism or a mutually beneficial partnership. The analysis focuses on trade volumes investment trends and the financial terms of Chinese loans and aid. Theoretical Framework This study is grounded in two primary theoretical constructs: neo-colonialism and economic partnership, which serve as lenses through which China`s engagement in Africa is analysed. Despite these impressive investments, the study reveals concern over the financial terms of China`s loans, which can lead to debt dependency in countries like Zambia and Angola (Corkin, 2011).
