Comparison of four scoring systems for patients with nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The aim of this study is to examine the predictive performance of different scoring systems for critical outcomes, including blood transfusion requirements, inpatient admission, and 90-day mortality, in patients with nonvariceal upper GI bleeding (NVUGIB). As for the hospital hospitalization, NEWS outperformed NEWS+L. This study has a distinct emphasis on the Saudi population and provided useful insights into how different scoring systems operate in a group with diverse clinical and healthcare features.
