Multiple-scattering effects on single-wavelength lidar sounding of multi-layered clouds

• What: The models (Eloranta, 1998; Hogan, 2006, 2008) were employed by practitioners to account for MS effects while retrieving clouds` optical properties on the basis of experimental lidar data (see e_g Nakoudi et_al, 2021; Seifert et_al, 2007; Delanoë and Hogan, 2008). The aim of this work is to perform Monte Carlo simulations of single-wavelength lidar signals from multilayered clouds with special attention focused on the peculiarities of the MS effect in regions of the cloud-free molecular atmosphere - i.e. between layers or outside a cloud system.
