- What: The aim of this paper is to provide a practical guide for users and creators of existing and future big datasets. Although big data have been defined in a number of different ways (including V-model descriptions covering volume and variety ), for the purposes of this article the authors will consider big data to refer to datasets that are larger and more complex than traditional studies. Depending on the research question, it may be beneficial to enforce post hoc inclusion/exclusion criteria to select subcohorts from big data for focused analyses on individuals with specific conditions . . .
