Prevalence of depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation and behaviours in young people presenting with a first episode of psychosis

  • What: Comparison to previous literature Depression This study showed a prevalence rate of moderately severe/severe depression in the sample at 71.5%. Suicidal behaviours This study reported 34.6% of the sample had suicidal ideation at the time of presentation to services, compare to 47% reported in an Irish study (Foley et_al, 2008) and 27% in a meta-analysis (Sicotte et_al, 2021). It also needs to be considered that this is a highrisk period for further self-harm or suicide attempts and the findings from this study demonstrate that depressive symptoms are strongly associated with suicidal . . .
