- What: This paper primarily examines wear assessment in polypropylene (PP) gears proposing and implementing a novel approach to measure the amount of wear on gear tooth profile using an image processing technique. subjecting plastic gears to wear experimentation and employing direct image processing methods the percentage of damage can be accurately evaluated. The average linear wear resulting from the experiment is used to calculate the wear coefficient which in turn is used in an iterative process to assess the wear depth during the progressive cycles.
