Ambisyllabicity in pakistani english: optimality approach

  • What: This research paper investigates the phenomenon of ambisyllabicity in Pakistani English (PE) by using the framework of Optimality Theory for examining the ambisyllabic consonants and syllable structures within the Pakistani English variety. The study collected the data from acoustic analysis and native speakers intuitions focusing on word medial consonants. The study focuses to compare the output with the British English (BE) related to the phonological phenomenon of ambisyllabicity. The findings of the study show that ambisyllabicity is a unique characteristic of Pakistani English that is governed by phonotactics norms of native languages spoken in different regions . . .
