Mortality and resource utilization in surgical versus transcatheter repeat mitral valve replacement: a national analysis

  • What: Various regression models were developed to assess the association between TMVR and in-hospital mortality as well as additional secondary outcomes. The authors examined the clinical and financial outcomes of TMVR and repeat SMVR using a large nationally representative cohort. Although transapical approaches may be required in patients with left atrial thrombus, the results of this study show that TS-TMVR may be the safer, if costlier, approach . The study has several important limitations inherent to the use of administrative data and its retrospective nature.
