This paper presents some of the results of this work, focusing on new findings, shortcomings discovered in existing methods and knowledge, and recommendations for future work to address the remaining challenges. The authors restrict the discussion to two-dimensional flows, which have been the focus of the great majority of the investigations so far. The finest mesh in this study had a near wall spacing of y + ≈ 0.08.
