Macrophages are critical for immunity, tissue repair, and organ regeneration. Tissue resident macrophages are observed in multiple tissues and defined as a population genetically and developmentally distinct from inflammatory macrophages (Cox et_al, 2021). Unlike blood monocytes or differentiated inflammatory macrophages, tissue resident macrophages maintain their population in-site via self-renewal without the contribution of blood monocytes . . .
