Unusual polarimetric properties for interstellar comet 2i/borisov

HIGHLIGHTS

  • who: S. Bagnulo from the Department University of de Barcelona (IEEC-UB), Barcelona, Spain have published the research: Unusual polarimetric properties for interstellar comet 2I/Borisov, in the Journal: NATURE COMMUNICATIONS NATURE COMMUNICATIONS of 30/08/2019
  • what: The authors report polarimetric observations obtained with the European Southern Observatory (ESO) Very Large Telescope (VLT), and the authors show that the polarisation of interstellar comet 2I/ Borisov is quite different to what is generally observed in comets of the Solar System, with a notable exception, that of comet C/ 1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp).
