SUMMARY

    Wooden archaeological artifacts excavated from the marine sources often contain problematic sulfur and salts, which can cause further degradation of ancient wood. For a better understanding of the degraded wood, its state properties were assessed, such as wood density, cellulose microfibril angle, water absorption, holocellulose molar mass, decay rate, and cell-wall ultrastructure. This study offers significant instructions for creating artificial ancient woods to restore and replace destroyed wood in the ancient wooden ships of China.
