SUMMARY

    Dietary treatment aims instead to reduce body fat storage primarily through hormonal mechanisms that directly impact adipose_tissue, thereby producing a negative energy balance. The CIM proposes that a high-glycemic load (GL) diet- one with large amounts of rapidly digestible carbohydrates (i.e., free sugar, processed grains, most starchy vegetables)-elicits hormonal responses that inhibit fat mobilization (lipolysis) and promote fat deposition in adipose_tissue. Without a degree of calorie restriction beyond most people`s ability to sustain, fat accumulation results because of continued partitioning of energy into adipose_tissue.
