Cannabinoids are key elements in the plant`s defence mechanism against biotic (e_g, insect predation) and abiotic (e_g, ultraviolet_radiation and nutrient deficiency) stresses under which cannabis plants have evolved, which has generated a diversified array of cannabinoid compounds. Although it is critical to understand the variation in the plant`s overall cannabinoid profile, research in this area is primarily limited to THC and CBD compounds, while the qualitative and quantitative traits of the minor cannabinoids have not yet been adequately explored.
