SUMMARY
The power law underlying plankton or marine snow particle size spectra means that concentration drastically increases when size decreases: the relationship is linear in log-log form (Sheldon and Parsons, 1967; Sheldon et_al, 1972; Stemmann and Boss, 2012; Lombard et_al, 2019). As marine snow particles cannot grow past a few centimeters because of disaggregation (Alldredge and Silver, 1988; Alldredge et_al, 1990), the ratio of particles to plankton also decreases with increasing size.
