Effect of conservation agriculture on aphid biocontrol by generalist (carabid beetle) and specialist (parasitoids wasp) natural enemy communities in winter wheat

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

Conservation agriculture differs from conventional agriculture in three main ways: minimal soil perturbation (no- or reduced tillage), permanent soil cover and high diversity of cropping system with crop rotation (Bash et_al, 2011; Gonzalez-Sanchez et_al, 2015). Positive relationship between soil management reduction, diversity and abundance of natural enemy communities and biocontrol services has already been proven for weeds or some ground dwelling pests like slugs (Honek et_al, 2003; Menalled et_al, 2007; Bohan et_al, 2011; Scaccini et_al, 2020) but still has to be demonstrated on insect pests, especially aphids (but see Tamburini et_al, 2016).
