SUMMARY
Particularly, Action 5 of the 2020 Strategy`s second target foresaw each EU Member State mapping and assessing the state of ecosystems and ecosystem services (ES) in their national territories, thus creating an EU-wide knowledge base (European Commission 2011). With their different contexts, scopes, scales and ecosystems, these CS represent suitable examples to understand the transfer of ES mapping and assessment approaches for policy- and decision-making to the EU overseas and to draw the lessons learned in the light of existing challenges and opportunities.
