    According to the 2021 ESC Guidelines on CVD prevention, RA is an independent cardiovascular risk factor, increasing the risk of developing ASCVD by about 50%, even in the subclinical stages or in patients with early‑ stage RA and symptoms for less than one year. Even though in almost half of the cases the increased cardiovascular risk is due to traditional risk factors, their management does not reduce it, with RA patients having more than twice the risk of developing MI compared to the general population.
