Two variants previously described are ICA fenestration and ICA duplication. ICA pseudofenestrations are easily mistaken for a "true" congenital ICA fenestration but, in contrast to an anomalous embryological development, are the result of a (healed) ICA dissection in which both the true and false lumina remained patent.
