SUMMARY
Measurement of cortisol levels in saliva is considered a reliable alternative to measuring free cortisol in serum/plasma, since there is a high correlation between salivary cortisol levels and unbound cortisol levels in serum/plasma; thus, salivary cortisol is believed to reflect the changes in free serum/plasma cortisol. Urine cortisol exists in conjugated (e_g, glucuronide-conjugated and sulfate-conjugated) and 3 of 17 unconjugated (free) forms. Besides the usually measured optical signals, e_g, SPR signals, some of the most recently reported cortisol immunosensors rely on the measurement of other parameters, e_g, on particle . . .
