SUMMARY
Meta-analysis of microbial community profiles presents unique quantitative challenges relative to other types of ‘omics data such as GWAS or gene_expression. MMUPHin_Correct performs batch correction of microbial abundance data, by extending methods from the gene_expression literature (ComBat ) to zero-inflated microbiome sequencing profiles. Lastly, MMUPHin_Discrete and MMUPHin_Continuous perform unsupervised discovery and validation of both discrete and continuous population structures in microbial community data (Additional file 1: Fig S5). Previously proposed techniques for microbial community data, namely quantile normalization and BDMMA, are only appropriate for differential abundance analysis and do not provide batchnormalized profiles . . .
