Associations of sex steroids and sex hormone-binding globulin with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a population-based study and meta-analysis

SUMMARY

    A meta-analysis of 16 studies published until April 2016 (date last searched) has suggested that lower SHBG is associated with NAFLD in both sexes, whereas the association with testosterone was sex-specific. This meta-analysis was limited only to testosterone and SHBG in association with NAFLD, included studies with adolescent participants, and pooled results for the association of testosterone and SHBG with NAFLD that were reported by each study in an inconsistent way.
