The biological effects of lycopene were explored in the treatment of the cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma cell line COLO-16, human epidermal keratinocytes (HEK), and the immortalized human keratinocyte cell line HaCaT. This was not entirely unexpected considering that SAOS400 cells are enriched in senescent cells that usually slow or stop the cell cycle and activate autophagy, trying to repair cell damage.
