Yap-dependent wnt5a induction in hypertrophic adipocytes restrains adiposity

    Obesity is caused by the accumulation of white adipose_tissue (WAT), which functions as an energy reservoir and endocrine organ that secretes many adipokines such as leptin, resistin, adiponectin, and TNFα. Adipocyte hypertrophy is mainly observed in the adipose_tissues of the obese and is associated with inflammation. Specific ablation of Wnt5a in adipocytes increased fat mass and glucose intolerance but did not downregulate the expressions of inflammatory cytokines in adipose_tissues, which suggests that hypertrophy/YAP/Wnt5a signaling in adipocytes constitutes a negative_feedback circuit that restrains the overexpansion of adipose_tissues.
