SUMMARY

    The majority uses acoustic signals for intraspecific communication and/or predator detection (e_g, Desutter-Grandcolas, 2003; Song et_al, 2020). The first publication showing auditory neurons stained with Lucifer Yellow came from Wohlers and Huber on six cricket interneurons, followed by studies on the neuronal basis of insect acoustic communication (for an outline, see Hoy et_al, 1998; Hedwig, 2014), with a special focus on ensiferans (bush crickets: Bailey and Rentz, 1990; crickets: Huber et_al, 1989). The increasing availability of confocal microscopes in the 1990s, coupled with a plethora of new fluorescent dyes, made multiple cell . . .
