SUMMARY
Recent studies on patients with AN reported comorbidity rates of 40% for depression and up to 80% for anxiety disorders, with 20-30% for generalized anxiety disorder, and > 50% for social anxiety disorder. Interestingly, data support also the other way round, since patients with major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders are diagnosed more often with a lifetime eating disorder when compared to people without affective or anxiety disorders thus supporting a shared genetic and environmental vulnerability.
