SUMMARY

    The total EV population can be measured using their common membrane surface proteins, namely, CD9, CD63, and CD81 tetraspanins, even more accurately than with non-specific methods, such as the traditional nanoparticles tracking analysis (NTA) or protein quantification assays (e_g, bicinchoninic acid-based assay). Alongside the general membrane markers, EVs carry donor-cell specific proteins, e_g, epithelial_cell adhesion molecules (EpCAMs) that are overexpressed in some solid tumors and extensively investigated for active targeting by nanodrugs.
