SUMMARY
There are increasing calls for genetic testing of all patients with breast cancer. There are some difficulties, cancer clinicians are not necessarily experienced in genetics or in dealing with some of the potentially challenging and complex conversations that may arise about risk and the uncertainties of genetic testing. Disclosing the identification of a high-risk genetic susceptibility to breast cancer at the same time as a patient is dealing with their current cancer treatment requires particularly sensitive communication.
