Periclase deforms more slowly than bridgmanite under mantle conditions

HIGHLIGHTS

  • who: Patrick Cordier from the Laboratory range Bdm expBdm glide Per exp. have published the research: Periclase deforms more slowly than bridgmanite under mantle conditions, in the Journal: (JOURNAL) of 10/02/2022
  • what: The authors show that periclase deforms very slowly under these conditions, in particular, much more slowly than bridgmanite deforming by pure climb creep. The authors focus on four pressures: 30, 60, 90 and 120 GPa, which, along the geotherm12, correspond to 2,000, 2,300, 2,500 and 2,800 K respectively, at around depths of 800, 1,500, 2,100 . . .
