    In the period the authors consider here, many problems were related to the influence of a magnetic_field on atoms and molecules. One of them was the understanding of the splitting of spectral lines in magnetic_fields. Sommerfeld quantum mechanics coupled the external magnetic_field to the electron circling planetary like around the nucleus, thereby creating a magnetic moment connected to the angular momentum of the electron. Due to quantization conditions of the three ‘action`-variables in the three-dimensional mechanics a controversial discussion took place about the behavior of the magnetic moment of the atom within . . .
