    In Classical Hebrew, ‫ רוח‬exhibits a high degree of polysemy, used in reference to phenomena ranging from the meteorological (wind, Eccl 1:6; Ps 1:4), the divine (Spirit, Judg 3:10; Isa 61:1), other beings (‘spirits,` 1 Kgs 22:21), and in diverse ways to humanity. This usage of ‫ רוח‬is often described either in quite vague generic terms such as "temperament," "disposition," "psychic forces," or with reference to quite specific experiences, especially "courage" and "anger." To understand how this metaphor expresses emotion, it is necessary to examine the function of the short/long . . .
