SUMMARY
In the absence of RCT evidence a "linked evidence approach" methodology has been advocated to evaluate the clinical utility of medical tests using decision analytical modeling to integrate evidence on each component of a test-treatment pathway. Concurrently, methodological research has defined the types of research required to evaluate medical tests (12;13) and methods to undertake HTAs of tests have been developed.
