HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

The risk of periodontitis is three-fold higher in diabetic individuals than in healthy individuals, and subjects with periodontitis have an increased risk of dysglycaemia and insulin resistance. From multiple clinical trials confirm that glycated hemoglobin levels are significantly higher in diabetic patients with periodontitis than in healthy control subjects and that periodontal healing is associated with the reduction in blood glycated hemoglobin concentrations.
