Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the breast: diagnostic agreement and impact on outcome

SUMMARY

    Over the years, the classification of neuroendocrine neoplasms of the breast (Br-NENs) has been updated by the multiple WHO editions and is still under discussion. Following this proposal, the updated NEN classification was also introduced in the 2019 WHO breast tumor fascicle, recommending pathologists adopt the terms "neuroendocrine tumor" (NET) and "neuroendocrine carcinoma" (NEC) in cases showing the morphology and immunoprofile typical of, respectively, well-differentiated and poorly differentiated NENs.
