Transcriptomic analysis reveals shared gene signatures and molecular mechanisms between obesity and periodontitis

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

OB induces a shift in the adipose_tissue T-cell population, with decreased Treg content and increased CD4+ TH1 and CD8+ effector T_cells that secrete proinflammatory cytokines. Cytokines and chemokines from adipose_tissue can also be released into the circulation and promote inflammation in other tissues in an endocrine manner. Meanwhile, T_cells in adipose_tissue are thought to play a role in obesity-induced inflammation by altering the number of adipose_tissue macrophages and their activation status. Nishimura et_al showed that CD8+ T_cells were increased in obese adipose_tissue and promote the recruitment and activation of adipose_tissue macrophages. Some . . .
