SUMMARY
The same story tells of prog rock dying at the end of the 1970s: one of the most colossal flops in the history of rock, considering that prog was to be remembered for decades as a bombastic and excessive selfreferential version of psychedelia. The most generous versions of this tale at least admit the existence of a ‘rebirth of prog` taking place around 1980-19837 and, once again, set in the UK, where prog came back as a new but weakened version of itself in the form of neo-progressive music.
