Over the years, more and more studies have demonstrated a difference in β-AR responsiveness and signaling activation between males and females that may help to explain the sex differences in CVD. Conversely, in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and cardiac fibroblasts (CFs), the β2-AR represents the prevalent subtype; while in endothelial cells (ECs), β2- and β3-AR are the predominant receptors expressed. This molecule, developed as a β1/β2-AR antagonist, was shown to be a partial agonist of β3-AR (both native and recombinant), and studies in β3-AR knockout (KO) mice . . .
