SUMMARY
The past decade saw major breakthroughs in the detection and monitoring from space of point-sources of atmospheric pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ammonia (NH3)1-3, and of greenhouse gases, e_g, methane (CH4)4. The authors expose over 300 anthropogenic C2H4 hotspots from space, captured by the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) satellite measurements22, and identify different categories of hotspots related to heavy industries and megacities. The authors compare the satellite-derived emission fluxes of industrial C2H4 pointsources with EDGAR, showing that these fluxes are unpredicted or misrepresented . . .
