SUMMARY

    Rectal cancer (RC) represents approximately 29% of all tumours located in the colorectal region and has a different behaviour from tumours located in the colon. The surgical treatment of RC for tumours located in the upper and middle parts has been standardised, yet for tumours located in the lower part of the rectum, surgical treatment remains debatable. Nowadays, obese patients who have low rectal tumours and difficult pelvic dissections caused by the narrow operating field and difficult vision can benefit from the TEM (trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery) technique, which consists of approaching the tumour . . .
