Although the cooperative action of E6 and E7 is necessary for cel lular immortalization and invasive cancer, E7 has been shown to be important in early stages of cancer development while E6 is a key factor in cancer progression and malignancy (Hawley-Nelson et_al, 1989; Mantovani and Banks, 2001; Riley et_al, 2003).
