SUMMARY

    This idea led to the notion of Jordan algebra defined as a commutative algebra over R with multiplication a ◦ b obeying ( x ◦ y)( x ◦ x )=x ◦ (y ◦ ( x ◦ x )). Starting with the original definition of Jordan algebra, the authors obtain a quadratic Jordan algebra taking Q a=2R2a - R a◦ a. It seems, however, that quadratic Jordan algebras are more convenient to relate Jordan algebras . . .
