Differential data protection regimes in data-driven research: why the gdpr is more research-friendly than you think

    The identified regimes differently address data subjects` control prerogatives and free flow of research data objectives by differentiating the safeguards requested and thus the standard of data protection required for private data pools, public data pools, and mixed private-public data pools. It thus appears that at European policy level, a new principle of free movement of research data is emerging, encompassing 1) public data employed for public interest-related research purposes, 2) public data employed for commercial-related research purposes, 3) private data employed for public-interest related research purposes, and ultimately, 4 . . .
