Removal of one acyl chain results in generation of monolysocardiolipin (MLCL), which is an important metabolite of CL. MLCL usually is prepared by hydrolysis of CL with phospholipase A2 (PLA2), which hydrolyzes acyl chains only at the sn-2 position.
