- what: The authors explored this concept and reported on the preparation and preliminary characterization of human recombinant myoglobin genetically fused to the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). The authors showed that the recombinantly expressed fusion_protein myoglobin-VIP (Mb-VIP) is endowed with targeting capability towards cells overexpressing VPAC1, and can be turned into a photosensitizing compound by replacing Fe-heme with Zn-heme (ZnMb-VIP).
