A composite pulse excitation technique for air-coupled ultrasonic detection of defects in wood

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: In this study, an air-coupled ultrasonic wood detection system with composite pulse excitation was designed, as shown in Figure 1. In this paper, a composite pulse excitation technique is proposed. After the model is constructed, the physical fields of each module are set up, and two modules (pressure acoustics and solid mechanics) are used in this model. In the experiments, a single-pulse signal and a composite signal were used as containing knot defects and the wood with pit defects.
