SUMMARY

    To standardize approaches for biodiversity monitoring on the global scales, frameworks on biodiversity monitoring have been elaborated. The following structured monitoring framework addresses the key considerations that managers must make in developing effective biodiversity monitoring programs and provides a precise roadmap for developing new programs. PAs are conservation areas in which the primary management objective is active conservation of biodiversity, whereas OECMs are managed for other purposes with in situ conservation of biodiversity being a key by-product of management.
