    While this approach and knowledge sharing are essential components in the biomedical management of chronic illnesses, they model ill individuals as passive recipients of care and somewhat discount and disregard the ill individual`s experience, psychosocial evolution and growth related to living with a chronic illness A key thesis in the illness experience is the conception of illness identity, a construct encompassing both the adaptation to living with chronic illness and_(2) the extent to which the ill individual has integrated their diagnosed chronic illness, in this case HIV, into their identity or sense . . .
